Molten Java owner Wendy Cahill has been waiting eight years to win the Best Coffeehouse title, and now, having just moved into a larger space, her wish has finally been granted. “Now we can have more events and bigger events,” she says. “There's a bigger gallery, more space for music… that's sort of the community coffeehouse vision. We expanded the menu also, so it's more of a café now.” The signature drink at Molten Java is its Turkish latte, made with fresh ground cardamom and cinnamon. All coffee is roasted on site, and in the new location you can now see the roasters in action. The food is predominantly burrito-based, but there are also baked goods, salads and in the not-too-distant future, breakfasts. A poetry club meets at the shop every Wednesday, and a bookstore has conveniently moved in upstairs, too. A motorcycle club also meets there on Wednesdays (do they mingle with the poets?). There's live music every Wednesday through Saturday, and sometimes on Sundays too: The new digs are allowing Molten Java to transform into the complete community hub it has always strived to be. “The new place was built completely by hand by myself and a lot of volunteers and employees,” says Cahill. “It took a couple of months but it's a pretty amazing place."

Winner of Best Coffee House in the Fairfield County Advocate's Best Of Readers' Poll 2012.
