The Mill on the River is a well-loved restaurant located on the picturesque banks of the Podunk River. The menu ranges far and wide, from hearty western European favorites like brats and wiener schnitzel, to elaborate Italian pasta classics, American-style steaks and chicken and fusion-inspired Asian dishes. The view alone makes the location perfect for a romantic evening or special event. If you're looking for lighter fare, sample from the bar menu in The Mill on the River's beautifully-renovated bar.

Helmar Wolf, owner of Mill on the River, knows exactly why his restaurant is so romantic. “Its our setting and the way the mill looks,” he remarks. “We have a restaurant that is 200 years old and a bridge that connects the building from a parking lot over the waterfall.” And while you may think that a bridge tops it all, get a load of what they call it. “Its our kissing bridge,” says Wolf. If that doesn't entice you, consider what foods they conjure up on romantic evenings. “We serve more upscale items: filet mignon, surf and turf, pan-seared sea bass, items of that nature. We also have 350 wines and we feature 45 by the glass.”

We have been to this restaurant on numerous occasions for family get togethers and have never been happy with our meals. Today’s lunch was an exception that I hope is a harbinger of change though it may have been a lightning strike. Our table started off with shared appetizers of calamari fritti with lemon and caper aioli. The calamari were delicately coated, lightly fried and tender. For an entrée I had barbecue glazed seared scallops over an arugula salad that included grilled red onion, toast pine nuts, and shaved Pecorino Pepato. The salad was coated with a honey tarragon dressing. Service was very good.
